The Last Revolutionaries
Revolutionary communism may be out of fashion in most places, but Nepal's Maoist rebels are bucking the trend. Tomas van Houtryve has been covering their struggle since moving to Nepal in 2004.
The conflict has spread across the country, with wide areas now completely under the control of the Maoists. From humble beginnings in 1996 the lightly armed group of guerrillas have been transformed into the People's Liberation Army, which now numbers between and 10 000 and 15 000.
Tomas' work on Nepal has just won an Award of Excellence at this year's Pictures of the Year contest.
